I wish I knew more about Nikos Erinakis. I wish I knew more about his time as a captive sent to Mauthausen concentration camp. I wish I had asked him more questions when he was still alive. And I wish I knew how he would have felt had he known that his wife and children would never receive the full compensation promised to him by German federal law in August 2000. I wish I knew how he would have felt about the lame excuses.
Θα 'θελα να ήξερα περισσότερα για τον Νίκο Ερηνάκη. Θα 'θέλα να ήξερα περισσότερα για τον χρόνο που έζησε στο στρατόπεδο συγκέντρωσης του Μαουτχάουζεν. Θα 'θελα να τον είχα ρωτήσει πολλά πράγματα όταν ακόμα ζούσε. Θα 'θελα να ήξερα πώς θα ένιωθε, αν μάθαινε ότι η γυναίκα του και τα παιδιά του δεν πήραν τελικά ολόκληρη την αποζημίωση που του είχε υποσχεθεί η γερμανική νομοθεσία τον Αύγουστο του 2000. Θα 'θελα να ήξερα τι θα 'λεγε, ακούγοντας όλες τις σάπιες δικαιολογίες της Γερμανίας.
Ich wünschte, ich wüsste mehr über Nikos Erinakis. Ich wünschte, ich wüsste mehr über seine Zeit als Häftling im Konzentrationslager Mauthausen. Ich wünschte, ich hätte ihm mehr Fragen gestellt, als er noch am Leben war. Ich wünschte, ich wüsste, wie er sich fühlen würde, hätte er gewusst, dass seine Frau und Kinder niemals die volle Entschädigung erhalten sollten, die ihm durch deutsche Bundesgesetzgebung vom August 2000 versprochen worden war. Ich wünschte, ich wüsste, was er sagen würde zu all den faulen Ausreden.
