I wish I knew more about my grandfather, Felix Fischer, I wish I knew more than just the facts that he served in Athens at some point, and that toward the end of the war he was captured in France. I wish I knew what he saw, what he did. And I wish I knew how he saw things after the war, how he felt about his role in the Nazi movement, about his membership in the SA. I wonder whom he considered responsible for the death of his oldest son in the war in the Crimea.
Θα 'θελα να ήξερα περισσότερα για τον παππού μου Felix Fischer, θα 'θελα να ήξερα περισσότερα από αυτά τα λίγα, ότι δηλαδή για μια περίοδο ήταν στρατιώτης στην Αθήνα κι ότι στο τέλος του πολέμου αιχμαλωτίστηκε στη Γαλλία. Θα 'θελα να ήξερα τι είδε και τι έκανε. Θα 'θελα να ήξερα πώς αναλογιζόταν τον πόλεμο μετά, πώς έβλεπε τον ρόλο του στον εθνικοσοσιαλισμό και τη συμμετοχή του στα Τάγματα Εφόδου. Και θα 'θελα να ήξερα ποιον θεωρούσε υπεύθυνο για τον θάνατο του μεγαλύτερου γιου του στον πόλεμο της Κριμαίας.
Ich wünschte, ich wüsste mehr über meinen Großvater Felix Fischer; ich wünschte, ich wüsste mehr als nur die Tatsache, dass er zu einer gewissen Zeit in Athen stationiert war, und dass er am Ende des Krieges in Frankreich in Gefangenschaft geriet. Ich wünschte, ich wüsste, was er gesehen hat, was er getan hat. Ich wünschte, ich wüsste, wie er die Dinge nach dem Krieg sah, seine eigene Rolle im Nationalsozialismus, seine Mitgliedschaft in der SA. Und ich wünschte, ich wüsste, wen er für den Tod seines ältesten Sohnes im Krieg auf der Krim für verantwortlich hielt.
